Our updates for you
Functionality & features
Bringing quality bidders to auctioneers and providing an unrivalled service are our principle aims and our recent updates allow us to do exactly that. These updates have all been launched and are available to you now.
Save time icon
Save time – Filters saved automatically on GAP Toolbox
Any filters you apply in GAP Toolbox are now automatically saved so that when you return to a page by clicking ‘back’, the filters you used previously in that session are still applied.
Genuine bidders icon
Adding genuine bidders – Bidder banning refinements
We now add genuine bidders to a whitelist to ensure they won’t be mistaken for banned bidders and can participate in your auctions as normal.
It's your data – See the underbidders
Data icon With GAP White Label you maintain total access to, and ownership of, your data. This includes the ability to see underbidders – the top five underbidders from each of your lots can be found in the GAP Toolbox on the lot’s ‘Bids’ page.
Never miss a bid – Split Increment Notifications
Bidding icon For Live Webcast auctions we have introduced a notification in the Operator app to display autobids that may potentially be missed.
  • If an autobid is available above the current hammer, but below the asking price (this can occur if the auctioneer changes their increments) the operator will see a yellow notification below the pause button.
  • If you wish to honour this bid, split the increment or change the asking price to match the value of the autobid displayed in the notification.

Getting to know...
Mark Holdaway
Mark Holdaway How long have you worked for Auction Technology Group?
14 years – I originally joined to work as part of the Antiques Trade Gazette sales team, however after two years the thesaleroom.com launched live bidding and my role became to introduce and support auctioneers in their live bidding journey.

That must have been fun?
It was - live bidding was a big commitment for auction houses so my role was to help auctioneers feel confident in using our systems. I still remember our first live sale in 2006 – it was Dreweatts and one of the first lots won online still sits proudly in our boardroom today.

14 years is a long time, what has made you stay?
My passion for auction industry and the people who make up the auctioneer community.

Do you buy at auction yourself?
Yes, I collect wine accessories, mainly silverware – I am currently looking for a magnum sized silver wine coaster. My auction alert is set up ready!

What is your role at ATG nowadays?
My team and I, along with Richard Lewis, are responsible for looking after all auctioneers on thesaleroom.com. Our aim is to support and grow their businesses, helping them to get the most out of thesaleroom.com’s range of products and services.

Is there anything you would like to ask auctioneers?
How can we help grow your business in the next few years?

Market movements
Most searched for items
Movement chart Demand for these types of items rose on thesaleroom.com during early Spring 2017 and 2018. When comparing a list of all objects users searched for during the same periods these moved impressively up the rankings and experienced an overall increase in how many times they were searched for. Maybe it’s the right time to dust off that cello you have in storage and get it in your auction.
